Seward Wins Another Excessive Force Case

A recent case handled by Mr. Seward arose out of an alarming domestic violence call to which City Police Officers responded. Three police officers were needed to wrestle one man away from an officer’s gun.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the police expert Mr. Seward had retained to testify at trial was unable to testify. Unphased by this, Mr. Seward asked the judge to permit the police officers to act the episode out. The re-enactment was allowed and the police officers did a fantastic job clearly demonstrating to the previously uncertain jury just how dangerous the situation had been and how much force was actually necessary to get the plaintiff away from the gun and ultimately arrest the plaintiff.

Mr. Seward gave a stirring closing argument, reminding the jury of the significant facts, explaining the law and causing the jury to really understand the officers’ positions during the incident. Thereafter, the jury deliberated for several hours before returning its no cause verdict.
