Municipal Law & Government Entities
As assigned defense counsel to the Michigan Municipal Risk Management Authority (MMRMA), our firm has represented over 600 governmental entities throughout the State of Michigan. We have defended claims of virtually every nature, including civil rights violations; public nuisance; negligent operation of governmental owned vehicle; sidewalk maintenance and more.
We advise Board of Trustees and various Boards, Commissions and Departments on a broad range of municipal law issues, including zoning and land use, sewer and water, the Freedom of Information Act, the Open Meetings Act, municipal finance, election law, municipal real estate transactions, condemnation and intergovernmental operating agreements.
In addition to the usual duties of drafting ordinances, writing legal opinions and advising boards, commissions and departments, Cummings, McClorey, Davis & Acho has undertaken a variety of significant assignments for our municipal clients. Our firm played a key role in assisting Redford's transition to Charter Township status. During our firm's tenure as Redford Township Attorney, the Township undertook the considerable task of entirely revising and codifying the Township's Ordinances and Codes.
