Summary of Experience
Karen M. Daley is an associate in the firm's Livonia office who practices in the areas of appellate, municipal and utility law. Ms. Daley's practice consists of primarily appellate work, and focuses on performing research for all areas of law handled by the firm, writing briefs for submission to all levels of state and federal courts, and keeping up-to-date with state and federal judicial decisions and laws that could affect clients of the firm. Ms. Daley has successfully represented parties in numerous cases in the United States Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the Michigan Supreme Court and the Michigan Court of Appeals.

Willett v Charter Twp of Waterford (Michigan Court of Appeals):
Ms. Daley successfully represented the municipality in the first published decision of the Michigan Court of Appeals addressing governmental immunity under the new sewer backup statute. The Court of Appeals agreed with Ms. Daley’s interpretation of the statute, and affirmed the dismissal of the claims against the Township.
Bradley v Ferndale (6th Circuit Court of Appeals):
Ms. Daley obtained a reversal of the denial of summary judgment in this jail suicide case. The Court of Appeals held that the actions of the Defendant Officers did not support a finding that they disregarded the inmate's needs or were grossly negligent. As a result, the federal and state claims against the Defendants were dismissed.
Ford v Waterford Twp (Michigan Court of Appeals):
Ms. Daley obtained a reversal of the denial of summary disposition. The Court of Appeals held that the drowning death of a child was caused by the property owner's failure to secure and maintain property, not any alleged conduct of the Township. As a result, the case against the Township was dismissed.
