Summary of Experience
Since joining CMDA in 2007, Ms. Lumetta’s practice has mostly concentrated on appellate work. In law school she knew this was the area of law she wanted to practice. She explains, “I really like the analytical nature and problem-solving that goes into brief writing. I enjoy trying to come up with new takes on arguments and the possibility of influencing the law in front of a three-judge appellate panel in Michigan and at the Sixth Circuit.” Her appellate cases have focused on various aspects of municipal law, employment law, insurance law and general tort law. She has appeared or filed briefs in the Michigan Supreme Court, The Michigan Court of Appeals and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Ms. Lumetta graduated cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law in 2007. While attending law school, she was fortunate to have obtained experience through various opportunities beyond the classroom setting. In fall 2005, she was the individual recipient of the honorable Best Brief award in MSU’s Moot Court competition class. Subsequently, she was selected as a member of MSU’s Moot Court and Advocacy Board, which presented the opportunity to compete against various law schools across the nation and has provided significant recognition. In spring 2006, her moot court team was awarded the National Championship at the 30th Annual Robert F. Wagner Labor and Employment Law Moot Court competition at New York Law School, defeating a large list of respected law schools. The following year, she returned to New York Law School where Ms. Lumetta competed as an oralist in the 31st Annual Robert F. Wagner Labor and Employment Law Moot Court competition and was honored to be awarded the 2007 National Championship. She defeated 42 law schools from across the nation, arguing in seven rounds for both Petitioners and Respondents, in front of a prestigious final round panel, including federal appellate court judges. She was honored to return with other awards, including Best Preliminary Round Oralist Team and Second Best Petitioner Brief. In addition, Ms. Lumetta was a member of various legal societies, including the Journal of Business and Securities Law. In 2007, she received a scholarship from the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan Foundation. Ms. Lumetta received a bachelor of arts degree, summa cum laude, from Oakland University.
